Reptilians

The Reptilian is described in the lore as six to eight feet tall, powerfully built, scaled in green to brown, with vertical slit-pupil eyes and clawed hands. In the fullest versions, Reptilians can hold a flawless human form and drop it only when unguarded. Their method is said to be infiltration rather than invasion: bloodlines and institutions quietly occupied, power exercised from behind human faces. They are the lore's cold-blooded aristocracy.

The modern myth is substantially David Icke's. The former British sportscaster's The Biggest Secret (1999) and Children of the Matrix (2001) fused older components: 1980s "Draconian" channeling material, contactee Alex Collier's placement of the species at Alpha Draconis, Zulu shaman Credo Mutwa's shapeshifter accounts, John Rhodes's reptoid research, and ancient serpent figures reread as aliens, from India's Nagas to the Genesis serpent to Mesoamerica's feathered serpent. A separate hollow-Earth strain (see the Dero) placed reptilian beings underground, drawing on Richard Shaver's 1940s pulp mythology.

Reptilian beings are the second-most-reported entity type in abduction literature after the Greys, typically described as menacing where Greys are clinical. Icke's work added testimony from individuals claiming to have witnessed prominent people shapeshift, claims that have never been supported by evidence.

"Lizard people" became one of the internet era's most recognizable conspiracy memes, referenced in polling (a widely cited 2013 survey found about 4 percent of Americans endorsing the idea), television, and the 1983 miniseries V, which predated and then fed the lore. The theory's application to real public figures has repeatedly crossed into defamation and antisemitic tropes, which researchers of extremism document extensively.

Skeptics and scholars of conspiracy culture trace every element of the myth to identifiable fictional and folkloric sources, note the complete absence of physical evidence, and document how the shapeshifter frame is unfalsifiable by design. Scholars including Michael Barkun have shown how the theory recycles older scapegoating structures, and Mutwa's accounts reflect folklore, not zoology. Within ufology itself, most researchers treat the Icke corpus as a separate conspiracy literature that damaged the subject's credibility. The archetype's persistence is studied as a cultural phenomenon, and the entry-level fact is plain: no Reptilian has ever been shown to exist.
