Garry Nolan

Garry Nolan is a professor of pathology at Stanford University School of Medicine, a prolific biotech founder, and among the most academically credentialed scientists working openly on UAP questions. He co-founded the Sol Foundation, a leading attempt at a scholarly institution for the field.

Nolan's mainstream record includes hundreds of published papers and pioneering work in single-cell analysis. He entered the UAP world when approached to analyze medical harm cases and materials, work he says involved government-adjacent requests.

Nolan led the genomic analysis of the Atacama skeleton, publishing in Genome Research in 2018 that the specimen was a human fetus with severe skeletal mutations, ending a famous "alien body" claim, which he considers exemplary of how science should treat such objects. He has analyzed alleged UAP-associated materials, including the "Ubatuba" magnesium and samples provided by Jacques Vallée, reporting unusual isotope ratios in some while stopping short of exotic-origin claims. He studied brain imaging of experiencers and intelligence officers with anomalous-exposure injuries. In 2023 he co-founded the Sol Foundation with anthropologist Peter Skafish, convening academics and former officials; its symposia and papers run through the PURSUE era. He has said publicly he believes non-human intelligence has interacted with humanity, while distinguishing belief from his published findings.

His verifiable contribution is methodological: peer-reviewed instruments applied to ufology's physical claims, debunking some and elevating standards for the rest. His stated beliefs go further than his data, which he acknowledges.

Skeptics argue his public statements outrun his publications and lend Stanford's prestige to weak claims; some materials analyses have been criticized as ambiguous. Nolan responds that curiosity plus rigor is exactly what the subject lacks, and that he publishes what the data support.
