Enigma Labs
The venture-backed app that turned UFO reporting into consumer software: a million-plus reports, machine-learning triage, and the era's cleanest public sighting database.
Reference note. This guide explains the basics of well-known UFO and UAP cases, people, and claims: what happened, who was involved, and what supporters and skeptics say. Milky Way News takes no position. Further investigation, skepticism, or belief is up to you.
01What It Is
Enigma Labs is a technology company whose mobile app lets anyone submit UAP sighting reports with structured data (location, heading, sensor metadata, video) and browse a global map of submissions. Launched publicly in 2022-2023, it is the reporting rail the smartphone era finally built.
02Origins
Founded by technologist Alex Smith with venture backing and advisors spanning data science, aerospace, and former government figures, Enigma bet that the field's oldest problem, unstandardized anecdote, was a product problem.
03What It Does
The app ingests reports (the company has described a corpus exceeding a million historical and user records after folding in legacy databases), runs machine-learning deduplication and mundane-object filtering (aircraft, Starlink trains, launches), scores submissions, and publishes aggregate views. It has cooperated with researchers, cross-references flight and satellite data, and positions itself as a neutral utility: no conclusions, just cleaner data. During flaps, most visibly the 2024-25 drone wave, its intake spikes provide real-time maps journalists and analysts cite.
04Key People
Smith and a small technical team; advisory names have included academics and former officials the company rotates publicly.
05Current Status
06Controversy
Skeptics note that crowdsourced volume amplifies the classic signal problem (Starlink now dominates naive reports) and question opaque scoring; researchers want raw-data access the company only partially grants. Ufology's old guard bristles at a startup owning the pipeline. Enigma's answer is throughput: stigma-free reporting at scale is the precondition everyone claimed to want, and now it exists with an API.
