George Knapp

George Knapp is a Peabody- and Edward R. Murrow-winning investigative journalist at KLAS-TV in Las Vegas. He is arguably the longest-serving and best-connected reporter on the UFO beat, responsible for the Lazar story, the Skinwalker Ranch book, and a stream of document leaks that shaped the modern era.

Knapp built a conventional investigative career covering Nevada politics and organized crime before the 1989 Lazar interviews rerouted it. His Nevada position gave him proximity to Area 51, Bigelow's operations, and Harry Reid.

Knapp aired Lazar's claims in 1989 and has defended and re-examined them since. He co-wrote Hunt for the Skinwalker (2005) with Colm Kelleher, documenting the NIDS investigation. He obtained and published AAWSAP-era documents, broke stories on the program's existence with Reid's cooperation, and released the 2019 Navy swarm materials with Jeremy Corbell, his frequent partner. He hosts Coast to Coast AM on weekends and co-hosts the podcast Weaponized with Corbell. Russian files he obtained in the 1990s on Soviet military UFO studies remain a unique archive.

Knapp's stated position is that the phenomenon is real, the government knows more than it says, and some whistleblowers are truthful. His contribution is journalistic infrastructure: sources inside programs, documents on the record, and continuity across four decades.

Critics argue Knapp operates as advocate as much as journalist, platforming claims (Lazar above all) that fail verification, and that his closeness to sources like Bigelow and Reid compromised distance. Supporters answer that his document record has repeatedly been vindicated, including AAWSAP's existence, years before official confirmation.
