Tim Burchett

Tim Burchett is a Republican U.S. representative from Tennessee and one of the House's most vocal UAP disclosure advocates. He co-led the July 26, 2023 House Oversight subcommittee hearing featuring David Grusch, David Fravor, and Ryan Graves.

A former Knoxville-area mayor, Burchett pairs down-home rhetoric with persistent records requests. He states his interest predates the modern wave and is rooted in distrust of Pentagon spending and secrecy.

Burchett organized the 2023 hearing with Anna Paulina Luna against initial resistance from leadership, and has co-sponsored UAP transparency amendments, including efforts to force release of records and protect whistleblowers. He led a 2024 follow-up hearing and has repeatedly pressed agencies, including in the PURSUE era, to release videos and files Congress has been told exist, including the demand covered by MWN that gave the Pentagon two weeks to release 46 alleged UAP videos.

Burchett says flatly that the U.S. government has recovered craft and possibly non-human "pilots," attributing the belief to witnesses who have approached him, and famously summarized his evidence standard as trusting credentialed people with nothing to gain. He coined the hearing-era line that the government's instinct is to "cover it up." His contribution is momentum: he keeps the issue on the House calendar and in the press.

Skeptics regard his claims as secondhand testimony amplified with certainty the record does not support, and his rhetoric as making serious oversight look credulous. Supporters counter that his bluntness broke the stigma that had kept colleagues silent.

Burchett remains in the House, central to the disclosure caucus and a fixture of PURSUE-era oversight fights.
